Couch Rams Intramurals
Come and join the Spanish Club to meet new people, learn a little Spanish, and explore the Hispanic culture. This club is not only for Hispanic students or students taking a Spanish class, but for anyone who would like to enhance their cultural and global awareness. Members participate in various activities such as crafts, dancing, cooking, foreign films, and more. We will meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 8:20 am in the Spanish classroom. The Couch Chronicle Staff creates the CMS yearbook. Students apply for positions on the staff in the spring of their 6th and 7th grade years. Interviews are completed and the staff is announced in May. The following school year, the students meet with the sponsors on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 AM until 9:00 AM. They design the layouts, write the copy, and select the pictures that will be used on each page. Meetings end in March and the final meeting in April is when yearbooks are delivered to the student body. Please contact Ms. Rose for more information.
Thrive is a student led Christian Faith club. The meetings include a devotional, skits, games and/or a student testimony, and worship music. There are no membership dues and everyone is invited to attend. The meetings are held on the second and fourth Fridays of the month, at 8:15, in the Fine Arts room on the Connection’s hallway. Girls and Boys basketball is available by try-out for the 7th and 8th grade students. You must have passed 5 out of 6 classes the previous year as well as in good academic and discipline standing in the current year. In order to try out, a physical form must completed before the first day of try-outs in order to participate. The girl's team will practice from 7:15 am - 8:45 am everyday and the boys 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm everyday. Games will be on Thursdays starting at 5:00 pm and Saturdays starting at 9:00 am. Readers Rally is a club for students who love to read. Students read from the list of fifteen books that have been nominated for the Georgia Book Award in preparation for a quiz bowl competition at the county level. This year’s county competition will be held on March 19, 2016 at Berkmar High School. Click here to see the list of fifteen books. Please contact Ms. Garner for more information.
The Couch News Crew is responsible for producing the daily Green and Gold News show. Student positions include anchor, director, sound technician, graphics technician, and teleprompter technician. Students must apply for News Crew and a teacher recommendation is required. Applications are accepted in mid-September of each year. Students serve on a team of five to six students for three to five weeks during the year, with the number of weeks dependent on the total number of applications accepted. The objective of the CMS Art Club is to provide an extracurricular activity for those students who enjoy and/or excel in the visual arts area. Activities include both individual and group projects, providing students with an opportunity to expand and strengthen their artistic skills. This is a great place to explore your personal interests in art and get some hands-on experience with art tools and materials. Art Club is an opportunity to participate with a group who celebrates their creative interests in an innovative and fun environment.
DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in middle and high schools, as well as colleges around the globe. Developing emerging leaders is the core of the DECA experience. The goal is to empower DECA members to provide effective leadership through goal setting, consensus building and project implementation. Aligned with 21st Century Skills in the areas of critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration and creativity and innovation, DECA prepares members to be effective leaders.
CMS Robotics Club designs, builds, and programs competitive VEX robots. Our season typically runs from May 1st - January 31st. We meet after school on Mondays from 4:15 - 5:50pm with our GSMST high school mentors, and then again two Saturdays each month to continue building. Our VEX competitions are always on Saturdays in December or January. We make STEM come to life!
Student Leaders (also known as Peer Leaders) are eighth grade students who are selected at the end of their 7th grade year to participate in an ELT class 9:20 to 9:50AM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. During the first part of the year, they are trained by the 7th Grade Counselor, Mrs. Chapman. Following training, Student Leaders will assist with small groups, present core curriculum lessons, tutoring, lead tours for new CMS students, and other projects that enhance their leadership skills. Furthermore, Student Leaders will attend the county wide Middle School Peer Leader Conference, which will be held in the fall. To be chosen as a Student Leader is an honor. Students will try out for the program by completing an application and must have good grades and good behavior.
